The "Boots on the Ground for Heroes Memorial" at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island, features over 7,000 combat boots, each with an American flag and a name placard honoring a fallen US service member killed in the Global War on Terror since 9/11
The memorial is organized by Operation Stand Down RI and is displayed annually at Fort Adams. The boots represent the lives of service members killed in action, with a separate circle of desert tan boots honoring fallen Rhode Island soldiers.
